Albert Jack case study

Photo of Albert JackBritish author, Albert Jack has traveled the world researching the origins of urban legends, everyday catch phrases and slang that we take for granted. He has written three books explaining the funny and strange stories he's discovered. Albert's first book, Red Herrings and White Elephants, was a huge international hit, enjoying a place on the best sellers list for over fifteen months selling over 250,000 copies in three different languages so far. His next book, Shaggy Dogs and Black Sheep, has currently approaching 150,000 sales. His latest book, That's B*ll*cks!, in which he recounts the strangest and most unforgettable urban legends, looks set to be another bestseller. Albert spends much of the year overseas researching and writing his books. In fact, he is currently in South Africa putting the finishing touches to his fourth book, Albert Jack's Ten Minute Mysteries, due for publication shortly.

Benefits of using Extrasys

As most of Albert's work is completed on the move, he requires a mobile working solution that is secure enough to protect all his intellectual property and robust enough to store huge files - his books are around 70,000 words on average. Extrasys provides Albert with access to his entire desktop environment - including all his software, files and information through the internet from anywhere in the world. All he needs is any PC or laptop with an internet connection. Furthermore, because Extrasys hosts all the information on secure and remote servers in state of the art data centres, Albert can focus on what he does best without having to worry about security. Backups, anti-virus software, firewalls, anti-spyware and disaster recovery are all taken care of.

Remote collaboration

Like any author, Albert must be in contact with his manager and publisher on an almost daily basis, providing them with updates of his latest work. Given that he is located on the other side of the world, this can prove to be very challenging. Rather than having to email huge files or fax reams of work across the globe - a time consuming and potentially risky activity - Albert's manager simply logs on to Extrasys from his home in the UK and views Albert's work as and when he needs to. With his editor they can even work together on the same file at the same time wherever they are.

Future plans

Once his latest book is completed, Albert plans to create an online collaborative environment in partnership with other leading UK authors that will allow them to log on to the Extrasys system and work on projects simultaneously. The flexibility offered by Extrasys will enable this plan to become a reality as the company operates on a per-user, per-month billing basis, which allows new users to be added quickly and easily as required.
